Emergency Responses
To be ready for Emergencies, you need:

1.  A first aid kit

2.  Installed fire and (perhaps) carbon dioxide alarms. Batteries
changed when the clock is changed for daylight savings.

3.  Phone numbers

4.  Information on how to use these.  A first aid book like the one in
the picture, is very handy.

Preparation and Practice

1.  Fire drills.  Explain to your children exactly what to do if the fire
alarm goes off.  Practice once per year at night after bed time.

2.  Introduce your children to the neighbors if possible, in case of fire
or a burglar.

3.  Teach your children how to use 911 and other numbers.  Ensure
that they have memorized a phone number for a responsible
relative, in case they have to leave the house quickly.

4.  In case of injury, make sure that you know the location of the
nearest hospital and that your doctor is aware of this.  In many
circumstances, it is much faster to drive a child to the hospital than
to send for an ambulance.

5.  See our
Preparation for Emergencies page to be prepared for
non-medical emergencies.
