Basic Nutrition for Children
1. Good health involves both nutrition and exercise, so make
sure that your child has plenty of active activities.
2. Do your homework, find out as much as you can. Here is a
good place to start. USDA, Dietary Guidelines for Americans
3. Meats should be lean, not too fatty, turkey, chicken and fish
are highly recommend, other sources of protein are beans,
peanuts.
4. A variety of vegetables are best, serve two each with lunch
and dinner.
5. If you children are picky or meals go uneaten, a chewable
vitamin can provide a good supplement.
6. Avoid sodas whenever possible, since they have many empty
calories, and the caffeine can be addictive.
7. Avoid buying snacks or breakfast foods that have a high
concentration of sugar
8. Plan your kids snacks, with healthy but fun food. Don't let
them go to the store to buy their own.
9. Don't be a control freak, educate your child about good
nutrition, but let them splurge occasionally. You don't want to
cause a rebellion.
