Dear Readers,
There are lots of things to make
New Year’s resolutions about. Here
are some parenting suggestions.
1. I will resolve to speak kindly
to my children and not yell. Kids
learn how to be kind and
considerate from you. I know they
can test you to your limit but they
will react just as well to a stern tone
of voice as full volume.
2. I will try to be patient with my
children. Your kids are still learning
and sometimes it takes a lot of
consequences to get through to
them. They don’t have your
experience and wisdom.
3. I will look for the positive in
my children and try not to dwell on
the negatives. Constantly harping
on the things that are wrong about
your kids gives them a bad feeling
about themselves. They need to go
into the real world with plenty of
self confidence. Teach them to love
life and be happy.
4. I will spend time with my
kids. They grow up so fast. Don’t
look back and wish that you had
spent more time with them.
5. I will read to my kids. This
encourages a love of reading which
leads to a love of learning. They will
be better students and appreciate
school more if they enjoy reading.
I’m sure that you can think of lots
more ways to improve you
parenting. It’s a never ending list so
we all just have to do the best we
can.
I hope all of you have a Happy New
Year!
Sara and Tim
